Set in post World War II America, StanShakes' production of A Midsummer Night's Dream explores love, sex, and gender in a world where these issues are crucial to identity and power. Between the lovers' manic desire, warring trains of fairies, and a group of community theater freaks armed with nothing but cue-scripts and a passion for the stage, A Midsummer Night's Dream lives in the space between funny and frightening, magical and real. As the characters grope their way through Shakespeare's maze of love, trust, and cruelty, this inventive and engaging interpretation of one of the Bard's most familiar texts will have us questioning marriage, sex and gender in the U.S. today.
The show runs from May 14th-18th at 8:30 PM each night, with an additional matinee performance on Saturday, May 17th at 2:30PM. Admission is free. Seating can be reserved now, although reservations are not necessary.
