about us
Renowned for creating entertaining, innovative, and accessible productions, the Stanford Shakespeare Company has received highly positive reviews both locally and nationally in the London-based magazine Plays International. A student-run repertory theatre troupe, the Society has previously produced such Shakespearean favorites as Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Othello, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, and Macbeth. Prominent Shakespearean scholar Stephen Orgel acclaimed the troupe's recent production of Titus Andronicus as "a genuinely original conception of the play, elegant and economical staging, and an adept and articulated performance with some really distinguished acting. I would go to see anything done by this excellent group." The show played to sold-out audiences throughout its run. The troupe consists of Stanford's top student-actors who are devoted to the study and performance of Shakespeare. The Stanford Shakespeare Company strives to share the joy of Shakespeare with the Bay Area community, and we are extremely grateful to the Stanford Student Body and to the ASSU for supporting us with Special Fees!
